Find the main shut-off
Usually where the water line comes into the house: basement, crawlspace or utility closet.

Turn it clockwise, all the way
Lever valves turn a quarter turn, across the pipe.

Open the lowest faucet
It drains what's left in the pipes and takes pressure off the leak.
- 04
Kill power to the water heater
If water is near it, flip its breaker or set the gas to pilot.
